6,000 Model Schools to be set up at Block Level in Rural Areas

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the project of setting up 6000 model schools at Block Level in Rural Areas.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has understood the need of basic education in the rural areas. As a result of that it has given its nod of approval for setting up of 6,000 model schools at block level as benchmark of excellence in rural areas across the country. The main motto of this project is to provide quality education in the rural areas of the country. The total amount, which has been allocated for this mega project, is Rs 1080 crore, and it is for the year 2012-13 only.

It has to be mentioned here that in November, 2008 the Model School Scheme was launched in India. The prime object of the scheme/project is to build up one higher secondary school each in 6,000 blocks. It will be the benchmark of excellence. In the blocks, which are not that much educationally backward, 2,500 schools are to be established under the said scheme. These 2,500 model schools are to be set up under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The remaining 3,500 model schools are to be established under the respected State/UT Governments. These 3,500 schools will be set up in Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs).

Education is the main basic factor to the overall progress of a country. But the fact is the overall literacy rate of India is not up to the mark. The present scenario of education in the rural areas is horrible. That’s why the Model School Scheme has to be implemented as soon as possible. Cabinet has done the right thing by approving the scheme and arranging the funds for it.

Everyone has their ‘Right to Education’ as per our Indian Constitution, but most of the rural areas don’t have the proper facilities. There are very few schools, colleges to be precise the educational institutions. Many rural boys and girls are quitting their study because of the lacking of schools. These 6,000 schools under Model Schools Scheme will help them to learn and grow. It will motivate them not to quit their study and educate their selves to gain a better personality. So for us it’s a thumb up scheme and it needs to be implemented according to the plan.

The CCEA has assured that the project will start very soon. In a recent press meet a senior CCEA official has stated that all the primary objectives have been finished according to the plan. It’s now just a matter of few days for the start of making the new schools in the rural areas.
