Cheetah the fastest
Robot of the
world, which is developed by Boston Dynamics, has set a new record for legged
robots, by sprinting at the speed of 28.3 mph. The previous record was set up
by a robot at MIT who sprinted at a speed of 13.1 mph. The speed of Cheetah Robot is also more than
Olympics champion “USSAIN BOLT” who made the world record of sprinting at the
speed of 27.8 mph in 2009.
The control algorithms of the Cheetah Robot
were so improved to increase the installed power and increase coordination
between Robot’s , legs and Back’s motion , Enhancing the Cheetah’s speed.
The Robot’s Back has been so flexibly
articulated such that it moved back and forth which helps in increasing its
strides and running speed as if it is mimicking an animal, depicting that the
invention of the robot is biologically inspired. The control algorithm of the
Robot, Emphasized on the coordinated interaction between robots’ feet, leg and
back.
Currently Cheetah Robot’s speed is recorded in
a laboratory by making it to run in the centre of the treadmill, using a boom
like device and the power for doing so is given by a hydraulic pump which is
present OFF the board. The current
version of Cheetah Robot is not efficient enough to handle wind resistance, so
it is not able to run outdoors. Another factor for it, not running outdoors is
that it depends on off board power without which it would fall.
Because of this, Boston Dynamics declares
“Ussain Bolt, Still as a superior athlete” but this is just short termed as the
next version of cheetah Robot named “WILD CAT” will be running outdoors.

There is no specific Task that this robot performs . This robot is a legged robot which has been recently invented and has set up a record of sprinting at a speed of 28.3 mph
