The Indra
Gandhi international Airport (IGI) of India, located in New Delhi, has been
awarded as the world’s 2nd
best airport in the 25- 40 million passengers’ category by Airport council
International. It was positioned just after the Seoul Incheon Airport. Mumbai
Airport was ranked in the 3rd sport right after IGI, which was also
considered 4th best among 199 Airports throughout the world across
all categories.
A Team of 9 people including representatives
from Airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Central
Industrial Security Force, Airport operations control and Air India were honored by “ACI ASQ” award at an award ceremony which was organized by Airport
Council International. This Ceremony was held at Istanbul, turkey on 14th
June 2013. This is a great victory for India.
Prabhakar Rao, who is the CEO of DIAL said, “This recognition is testimony to the efforts of all our
employees and partners who have consistently met the expectations of the
industry.”
According to the scale of Airport Service
quality (ASQ), IGI Airport scored 4.83 out of 5. With the help this awesome
score, IGI became the 2nd Best Airport of the World. In 2007, IGI Airport scored 3.02 on ASQ scale
and ranked last among the 101 participating Airports of the world. This is one
of the biggest achievements for IGI Airport as well as for India, and it is a
great leap for the Indian airport too.
IGI Spreads over an area of 5,220 acres of land,
and it was made during World War 2. IGI was previously known as Palam Airport
but was renamed to Indra Gandhi International Airport. In 2012, it was
considered as the 27th busiest airport in the world.
In 2012, around 34.2 Million passed through
IGI Airport but IGI Airport has an annual capacity of over 60 Million
passengers. In that year IGI handled around 550,000 tonnes of cargo and 300,000
aircraft movement during the year. It has been aimed at handling more than 100
Million visitors by 2030.
Since 2006, by the time when ASQ was started
its journey, it has become world’s most leading airport passengers satisfaction
measure gradually, in which more than 275 airports participates every year. The
award has a serious prestigious value indeed.
The ‘Best Airports of the World’ award is given
on the basis of ACI’s ASQ Passengers Satisfaction survey. This survey was done
on a uniform format worldwide. The ASQ
Awards helps in comparing the quality of services from the top airports of the
world and also encourages other Airports to improve their passenger’s services.
