Google I/O made an announcement which is, users can now
send money as an attachment. It’s a major and spectacular addition to its email
service. Sending and receiving money was never this easy.
According to information, to send money all
that a user needs to do is just use the dollar symbol in the attachments and
write down the amount of money. One can send money to even those who do not
have a Gmail account.
This feature will be available soon to the US Gmail users above 18 years old, but
there are some people in the US, who are using it already. Even you too can
activate this feature only if somebody who already has it sends you money. It
has to be added here that Gmail already lets its coveted user to attach
documents, photos, event invitations and videos, and the latest inclusion in
that list is money. Cool eh?
This money transaction system works with the Google Wallet, and it can be accessed
after it’s compiled with a bank account of the user. It can also be used if
credits are added to a user’s Google Wallet Account. That’s not all, users are
allowed to choose to connect their account with a credit or debit card, but in
this feature they will be charged with 2.9% fee per transaction.
But this money transaction feature of Google
is expected to pose a threat to e-commerce companies like Venmo, which offer
money transfer feature through Android
and iOS apps, which are currently dominating the US market. The main advantage that Google has is its
large number of trusted users, so the feature might catch on really fast.
Google I/O is an annual developer conference,
which was held by Google in San Francisco, California. Google I/O was started
in 2008. The "I" and "O" stand for input/output, and

of the Google Developer Day.
The integration of Google Wallet and email is
predicted to have huge potential provided people are willing to trust the
service. If you have this feature, then to access it first you have to compose
a new email, and then click the attachment button, and finally select the
dollar sign button. Few days back Google unveiled ‘Talking Shoe’ with Adidas.
There are some issues too with Google Wallet
which need to be discussed here. One of the major problems is none of the
merchants are currently adopting the product due to security and trust issues. Another
supreme hurdle for e-money transaction system at a widely global level is KYC
(Know Your Customer) norm. Google will not be able to deal with these types of
serious issues for international transfers.
