Bill Gates, World's Richest Man

Bill Gates became world’s richest man again for the first time since 2007. The co-founder of Microsoft regains the world richest title from the Mexican investor Carlos Slim on 16th May 2013. His amount of fortune is $72.7 billion, up 16% year-to-date. Last year his amount of fortune was $61.0 billion. "When they're talking about reform in a country that's generally poor, and the guy shows up No. 1 on the list — not a good thing," said Greg Lesko.

However, Bill donated $28 billion of his fortune to the 14-year-old Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which he and his wife and fellow billionaire Warren Buffett operate as one of the world's wealthiest philanthropic organizations.

After becoming the World’s richest man Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, spoke before a senate committee on labour and education, asked Congress to increase the number of H-1B visas.

Before this calculation Microsoft's Windows Phone grabbed third place from BlackBerry, which launched Z10 just a few months back, in global smartphone shipments in the first quarter, market researcher IDC said Thursday. Windows Phone accounted for shipments of 7 million smartphones, earning itself a market share of 3.2 percent last quarter. That was a gain from the first quarter of 2012, which saw shipments of 3 million and a market share of 2 percent.

Microsoft also helping Google with support for a feature to let browsers flexibly handle input from touch screens, mice, and pens. Monday, the Redmond-based company, which recently appointed Amy Hood as their first female CFO, announced on the Blink mailing list that it's planning to write a version of its Pointer Events technology for Blink, the open-source browser engine project at the heart of Google's Chrome browser.

Mexico's Congress passed a law to abrogate the telecom company that could force Slim to break up America Movil or charge lower rates in Mexico. Because of that Slim's America Movil, the largest mobile-phone operator in the Americas, has dropped 14% this year and its stock price drop has slashed some $3 billion from the telecom tycoon's net worth.

The new president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and the country’s major political parties, are cracking down on monopolies. Though Slim denies the accusations, many opponents have called him a monopolist and, indeed, his $16 billion (2012 revenues) company does control 70% of Mexico’s wireless market and approximately 80% of land lines.

It has to be mentioned here that the American investor Warren Buffett is the world's third-richest person. His amount of fortune is $59.7 billion, according to the Bloomberg ranking.
