Manipal Group along with the support of FirstRand Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Durban University of Technology in
South Africa to boost reinforcement among the two institutions in the areas of business management, online
education, engineering, teacher training, health sciences, and the areas of testing and assessments.
FirstRand Bank expressed its view in a statement regarding this
issue, and it stated the above mentioned information along with the future
opportunities of this mutual cooperation. Eventually the bank highlighted a few
key points of this tie-up, which
would like to help both the institutions especially in the technology sector in a very good way indeed.
Dr. Vinod Bhat, who is the honorable pro vice chancellor of Manipal University, delivered his thoughts in a statement. The
following is a small excerpt of what he eventually said in it to provide the
whole project some more lights.
"We are happy to partner with the Durban University of
Technology to expand its efforts in growing the education and skills base in
South Africa. The parallels between the youth of India and South Africa are
very strong. Both countries have vibrant and energetic youth hence it is
imperative that this energy is harnessed and channeled in a positive manner so
that it contributes to the economic and social well being of the country”.
Mahendren Moodley, who is the current CEO of FirstRand in India,
added his thoughts too on the MoU in the mentioned statement. He said, "FirstRand will continue to use its unique position as the
only African banking group in India to identify partnerships that will benefit
South Africa as a whole. We see many more opportunities for the Manipal group
on the African continent."
It has to be mentioned here that Manipal
Group is one of the major clients of FirstRand in both India and South Africa. According
to Mr. Moodley the MoU might work as a catalyst for the Manipal Group, and it would
help the group to expand its businesses into South Africa in a good manner. These types
of tie-ups are always essential for the growth of any
institutions.
The MoU is quite small in scale, but that
doesn’t decrease its overall importance to the participating institutes. It may
open up innumerable number of future bilateral cooperation opportunities in front of the entire
acknowledging sectors for sure.
