Miss Philippines Megan Young won Miss World 2013 Title

Philippines beauty Megan Young won the prestigious 'Miss World 2013' title
Philippines beauty Megan Young won Miss World 2013 by beating 130 contestants across the world on 28th September 2013. This was the 63rd Miss World competition and this is the first time Miss Philippines has been awarded the title. The grand final of the Miss World eventually happened in Nusa Dua, in Indonesia's resort island of Bali.

Young, who placed first among the top 10 semifinalists also won in the Top Model challenge event and excelled in the Beach Fashion pre-pageant challenge, where she placed 5th.

In the question and answer portion where the candidates were given 30 seconds to tell the judges why they deserve the crown, Young expressed her belief in a "core value of humanity" which guides people's actions. She hopes to use this to show others how they may contribute to society.


Megan, age 23, who is a student of filmmaking, is excited to have taken over the crown from 2012's Miss World winner Wenxia Yu of China. Megan has ambitions of moving behind the camera in the future, she has a dream to become a successful film director after finishing her qualifications. She is also majoring in Digital Film Making at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, and has previously attended the Trinity University of Asia in Quezon City, Philippines.

Young has admitted to having a fascination for zombies. She favors shows like The Walking Dead; zombie-like movies such as 28 Days Later; games like Zombie Tsunami, Left 4 Dead or spooky ones like Silent Hill. She has also made a short film on zombies for her school project.

"I have no words to express my feelings. Thank you so much to everyone for choosing me to be the next Miss World. It means a lot to me and I promise to be the best person. I am very very excited," she said after the crowning.

Frances' Marine Lorphelin was the first runner-up and Ghana's Naa Okailey Shooter was the second runner-up.

Though Miss India World Navneet Kaur Dhillon did not make it to the top ten but she achieve the title of Miss Multimedia. Navneet was being touted as one of the probable winners and was expected to bring back the glory of the Miss World title home after a gap of more than a decade. Last time the popular Bollywood actress ‘Desi Girl’ Priyanka Chopra won the title for India in 2000.
