Today we’ll talk about a very interesting topic related to the mindsets
of young Indian students. Basically we all know that most of the emerging and promising
students of our country love to go to the abroad in order to study further and
build a nice career. In this article we will mainly focus on 7 surprising
reasons which lead the Indians to study in the colleges and universities of the
United States (US). Here we go.
US Universities Offer Flexible Programs
Most Indian universities focus on a strict,
highly structured program. While this
approach has its benefits, many Indian students crave the opportunity to study
more than one subject. In US
Universities you usually have major and a minor, or a double major, and most
programs allow for a certain amount of electives. Your major is your main course of study,
while your minor can be a topic of interest or a subject that complements your
major. You could study biology and have
minor in art! If you can’t decide
between two main topics double major and gain two areas of expertise. Then, within the program, when required to
take a physical education class, for example, you can choose tennis or
karate. Just be sure you have firm grasp
on all program requirements to make sure you graduate on time!
Choose a Local or International Experience
There are so many US Universities that you
can easily choose exactly the experience you wish to have. A larger university is a good opportunity to
have a truly international experience and meet students from every continent. On the other hand, if you wish to be fully
immersed in the US culture there are many community schools where you can
experience that. OF course, making sure
you have the experience you desire does involve doing due diligence and fully
researching the universities you are thinking of attending.
US Visa Laws Favor International Students
Many students who go to study in the US or
the UK want the opportunity to work in that country either long term or to gain
some experience before returning home.
Unfortunately, at this time, the UK is restricting post-education work
opportunities by tightening immigration laws.
The US, however, has put in place visa policies favoring international
students. Most notably, the optional
practical training for science and engineering students has been increased to
29 months.
Great Quality of Life
When choosing where to go to school in the
US, consider if you want to experience a city setting or a more natural
setting. In addition, look into the cost
of living. No matter what though, you’ll
have a lot of fun hanging out with other students. IN the US, generally the whole student body
is more laid back about school. While
you don’t want to neglect your studies, this does allow for some great
experiences outside of schoolwork. Make
friends and let them teach you how to Golf, go hiking, play laser tag, go to
concerts, and just generally enjoy all the entertainment opportunities the US
has to offer in comfortable settings.
Optimal
Employability
Studying abroad in the United States will
give you a great edge in the job market.
Your time in the US will allow you to get a much better grasp of English
than studying almost anywhere else. This
practical experience speaking English will make you a desirable employee in all
most any country you choose to work in.
In addition, the nature of most US schools teaches problem solving and
analytical thinking. You’ll come to an
employee with critical thinking skills as well as all the specialized knowledge
you need. The internships, work studies,
and practical training offered in the US will also make you a very desirable
hire—opportunities not usually available in India.
Globally
Recognized Degrees
An American degree from an accredited US
university will be recognized internationally.
It’s this simple. Your degree will actually be worth all the time and
money you’ve invested in it.
Open
to Larger Number of Students
The numerous quality schools in the United
States make the likelihood of almost any student getting accepted very
high. While not every Indian student
will get accepted into an Ivy League school, that’s not a problem. There are hundreds of well respected schools
in the US that are not Ivy League. While
places in a good Indian school are extremely limited, the same is not true in
US. This fact alone makes the US a very
popular study abroad destination.
