Cricket as everyone knows gains much significance in all over the world. It is the national game of Britain, but it is much well-known in Asia, especially in Indian, in Pakistan, and in Sri Lanka. Like every activity Cricket have its own style, passion, entertainment, velour, and interest of viewers.

A sports rivalry is extreme competition between sportsmen. This stress of competition is sensed by players, trainers, and management, but is perhaps sensed most powerful by the fans. The matches between rivalry teams are much interesting; everyone watching the match is in the state of enthusiasm.

The matches between rivalry groups are much interesting; everyone viewing the match is in the condition of passion. We have seen often fights among the people supporting their teams. There are many teams termed as “Rivals” like Australia and England, South Africa and West Indies, but the India–Pakistan cricket rivalry is one of the most intense sports rivalries in the world especially in Indian Subcontinent.

India-Pakistan cricket match has been approximated to entice up to three number of thousand TV audiences according to a survey. We can see Indian Pakistan competition since the day of partition. The rivalry set up to such height of extremism, even if the two nations have a chance to encounter in sports, there establishes a condition of war between them; not only in athletes but also in audiences. Players in both teams face extreme pressure to win, and threatened in case of losing.

India-Pakistan cricket rivalry starts from the day the first match played, in 1948, Pakistan tour of India was their first in Test cricket history. They lost the first Test in Delhi to India, but won the second Test in Lucknow, which led to an angry reaction from the home crowd against the Indian players. Moreover Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971 make extreme rivalry among the nations, cricket was extremely impacted and it survived until 1978.

Government of both Indian and Pakistan consistently trying to take care of disputes increased between them; they focus on Cricket as diplomatic tool to enhance the diplomatic interaction. Through cricket, diplomatic relations are much enhanced; leading towards peace among the two countries. Nowadays cricket rivalry between the two is not at the extremist level, people mind is probably changed, and they search for solutions not for quarrel.

Only some Hindu extremist parties openly challenged the resolving strategies of Government, they always threaten that if Pakistani Cricket team happens to play in India; they will not let them play. Sensible country should not probably do such things and should try to reside in serenity, do well to others and you would anticipate the same. Cricket is just the game and should be played as a game. We should appreciate the game; do not take it to the heart even if the Rivals are playing.

  1. Thanks a lot of this detailed explanation. Actually sports is played to increase goodwill, peace and friendship. But in case of India Pakistan cricket matches people act as if its a war. The problem is people of India-Pakistan do not get any platform for conversation and friendship due to bad relations between countries so people have lot of misconception about each other and they take out their hatred in cricket matches.
