On this Thursday Nokia unveiled a brand new Asha 501 phone, which will be priced at $99. This new phone will mainly target the middle class consumers, and will try to prevent them from switching to devices that are supported by Google’s android while upgrading from basic phones. The new Nokia Asha 501 will be a mid range phone, and it will focus the worldwide emerging markets.

The Nokia Asha 501 will run on the newly-launched Asha platform. Eventually it will be the very first mobile device to run on that. Nokia has previously claimed that the new platform is purely focused on making the overall experience faster and more responsive. The phone will support the dual SIM features, and it has a camera of 3.2 mega pixel.

Mr. Stephen Elop, who is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nokia, interacted with the reporters in a press meet, arranged by the company itself.  "We will deliver Asha 501 in June to millions of people," he told this to the reporters on that meet at Helsinki.

The Nokia Asha 501 has some standalone features to attract the potential customers of the mid-ranged phones. It is coming with a talk time period of up to 17 long hours. It also has a pretty large 3-inch display screen with resolution support up to 320*240p, and 133 ppi pixel density. The new phone will also offer Wi-Fi network and 2G for connectivity, but sadly it will not support 3G.

The popular Nokia Xpress Browser will be pre-loaded in the Asha 501, and this will surely help mobile browsing experience faster and smoother. Nokia has confirmed the availability of Nokia Xpress Now, which is basically a ultra new Web application that mainly recommends or prefers content based on key factors like preferences, location and trending topics. This new application will be available for the user either via the homepage of the inbuilt Browser or as a free download from the Nokia OVI Store.

Social networking applications like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook will be available too for the Nokia Asha platform. Here we should mention that in late January of this year BlackBerry Z10 was also unveiled.

Mr. Marco Quatorze, who is Value Added Services Director for America Movil, showed his joy and happiness while talking about this matter. The following is a small excerpt from what he actually said in his speech.

“We are very happy to offer the new Nokia Asha 501 through our subsidiaries in the continent. We are certain that this innovative device will follow the successful footprint of the Nokia Asha family, combining affordability with the best communication and Internet browsing capabilities,"

It has to be added here that the Asha phones do have some of the very basic features of smartphones, which includes facility of using apps like Facebook, and better access to Internet. Nokia mentioned that it will start the shipping process of Asha 501 in June 2013 and will be available through around 60 distributors and operators in over 90 countries.
