After a long wait, finally Kochi Metro Railway Project started its
voyage. Recently the honorable Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh himself laid
the foundation stone for the Kochi Metro Railway Project. The expected cost of
this project is Rs 5,180 crore and it is to be completed in three years only.
Mr. E. Sreedharan, who is a former administrative member of Delhi Metro, is the
main key man behind this project. He is the live wire indeed.
Now with
the help this project Kochi joins the league of Metro cities. It has become the
eighth Indian city with a Metro network. The project will cover an area of 25
km from Alwaye to Petta.
The central government is helping the
project by allotting Rs 1,000 crore in the total project cost, while the rest
of the money will be arranged by the state government. The local state
government has decided to avail it in the way of loans from various funding
agencies.
The
Central Government is planning to launch Metro Network in all the 19 cities
which have a population of more than 20 lakh people. So the Government has
already decided to help and support the preparation of detailed project reports
for Metro Rail in these nineteen cities. It has to be mentioned here that
detailed project reports for 12 cities are already ready.
So India
will have more and more metro cities in near future. It is very essential for
growth and modernism. It will bring the speed, comfort and many other things in
the life of daily passengers. It will also improve the image of India to the rest
of the globe.
