73 PEOPLE DIED AFTER A FOOTBALL MATCH IN EGYPT

A brutal riot in Egypt snatched away 73 lives after a football match. This sad incident was marked as a “black day” in the history of football. Egyptian state television reported that 73 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured “when fans stormed the football field seconds after the match ended in Port Said.” Some of the dead in Wednesday’s clashes were security officers, who tried to stop the riot.

“The deaths were caused by suffocation and serious fractures,” Dr Hassan Al-Isnawi, who is the director of the Acentral hospital in Port Said. The riots broke out after a game between Egypt’s Al-Ahali and Al-Masri teams in Port Said. Eventually Al-Masri won the match by 3-1, which is a pretty rare win for them. Obviously the supporters of Al-Ahali couldn’t be able to believe it, as their team is the best team of Egypt, so they became violent and as a result the riot broke out.

Egypt’s state television said fans of Al-Masri surrounded the players of the rival team and their supporters on the field and started pelting them with stones and bottles. Egyptian media described the incident as “the worst in the history of Egypt’s football.”
