BlackBerry Sold around 1 Million BB Z10 Devices

Global smartphone maker BlackBerry announced that it had sold around 1 million BlackBerry Z10 devices during the fourth quarter that was ended on March 2.

On this Thursday the global smartphone maker BlackBerry announced that it had sold around 1 million BlackBerry Z10 devices during the fourth quarter that was ended on March 2. It also declared an unexpected profit on demand for its new touch screen device named as Z10.

The new device BlackBerry Z10 eventually holds the key to its successful comeback in the global smartphone market. Despite of this surprised profit on demand the net revenue remained far below year-earlier levels.

In the Q4 period apparently BlackBerry had shipped 6 million smartphones worldwide. Just few days’ back BlackBerry launched Z10 in US market to take another step to regain its lost glory in the worldwide growing smartphone market.

UR Rao, Indian Space Scientist Inducted into Satellite Hall of Fame

                       UR Rao, who is one of the top most space scientists of India, has been inducted into Satellite Hall of Fame in Washington DC of the United States of America by the Society of Satellite Professionals International.

Today Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) published a statement to publish this news of honor. The following is a small excerpt of what ISRO said in its latest statement,

"Rao is the first Indian space scientist to be inducted into the Satellite Hall of Fame and joins the select group of about 50 members, including Arthur C. Clarke, Van Allen, Harold Rosen, Peter Jackson and Robert Berry, among others."

Mumbai Drops to 66th in World’s Leading Financial Hubs Ranking List

Mumbai dropped to 66th position in the recently published ranking list of world’s leading financial hubs. The list was released by Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI).


                The most financially powerful city of India Mumbai dropped to 66th position in the recently published ranking list of world’s leading financial hubs. The list was released by Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), and the capital of India New Delhi failed to secure a position in the list despite of showing some sparks over the last financial year.

GFCI is an agency, and it provides ratings, ranking and profiles of 79 leading and powerful financial centres across the world in that coveted list. It has positioned Mumbai at the 66th rank, which is a clear cut demotion of three places from the last year’s ranking. Last year Mumbai managed to secure 63rd rank in the said list.

The capital of United Kingdom, London has managed to secure the pole position to claim the tag of number 1 financial hub of the world. It has to be mentioned here that Mumbai remains the one and only Indian entry of the list.

SIDBI Inked MoU with Egypt for SME Sector Development



The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) inked MoU with Egypt-based Social Fund for Development (SFD) and the World Bank.

The Small Industries Development Bank of India or better known as SIDBI recently inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Egypt-based Social Fund for Development (SFD) and the World Bank.

The MoU was signed in the presence of H E Dr Mohamed Morsi, who is the honorable President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Shri Anand Sharma, who is the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. 

Mr. Mohamed Morsi is on an official visit to the country in order to develop the mutual engagement of both the countries. He will eventually discuss about the scope of co-operations between the two countries with some of the high level ministers and officials of Government of India.

Indian Government Approved 12 FDI Proposals worth over Rs 2.6 k Crore

Decathlon Sports India's proposal for introduction of foreign funds worth Rs 700 crore to participate in single brand retail has also been approved by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), which is eventually headed by the honorable Economic Affairs Secretary Mr. Arvind Mayaram himself.

The Finance Ministry of India has issued a press statement acknowledging this economic news. In that statement the ministry said, “Based on the recommendations of FIPB in its meeting held on February 13, Government has approved 12 proposals of foreign direct investment amounting to Rs 2,609.27 crore approximately.”

India-US Bilateral Trade Likely to Touch $500 Billion in Next 10 Years

                      The bilateral trade between India and United States (US) is likely to touch the huge $500 billion mark in next 10 years. This has been said by the US-India Business Council (USIBC), a business advocacy organization for the US in India that aims to strengthen trade and commercial ties between the two countries.

In the year of 2006 the bilateral trade between India and US was around $25 billion only, and since then it has been increasing continuously with a rock steady manner. Eventually the India-US trade has crossed the $100 billion mark in last year, while the defence trade between the two countries contributed a lot in that figure, as it figure is around $10 billion (for defence only) in the last one decade.

The honorable chairman of USIBC Mr. Ajay Banga said a few things to enlighten the bilateral trade opportunities between US and India. He was talking to some press reporters along with the President of USIBC Ron Somers and CII president Adi Godrej. Mr. Banga, who is also the CEO and President of MasterCard, attended a leadership summit of USIBC and CII. The following is an excerpt of what he said,

On coming Monday the bill will be discussed with the leaders of all the leading parties of India.

Yesterday only a group of Ministers of India cleared the bill, which mainly proposes to lower the age of consent to 16 from the existing 18. The proposed bill clearly states that from now on the sustained stalking will be made a non bailable offence, which has become a necessary to curb the increasing stalking incidents around the women of India.

The bill also proposes a few more things like it will eventually make the first offence of voyeurism a bailable offence. Not only that the bill also says that no punishment for cases with false allegation against the women.

The Central Bank of Australia has admitted that it has been the victim of a cyber attack, as some hackers targeted it for reasons best known to them. A report on this had been published on a popular Australian Daily Newspaper, and soon after the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) said that it had been targeted by some hacker group as a part of a cyber attack.

The Australian newspaper report also revealed that this hacking incident is nothing new for the Central Bank of Australia. The hacking incident caused severe problems to the central bank, and it eventually included malwares embedded in various emails.

The Central Bank said that the hackers had not able to make the system corrupted, so no data had been lost, and all of its system worked perfectly well during the time of attack. The reports clearly mentioned that the attack had been originated in China, but the Central Bank of Australia did not comment in that issue, as it was quite a sensitive one for sure.

It’s not new at all, as Pantaloon Retail has been selling off its various assets for quite a few times now. The retail company basically wants to reduce its debt, which is quite high at the moment, and for that it had already sold one of its retail businesses to Aditya Birla Group and its stake in Future Capital Holding to Warburg Pincus. All these moves would be quite able to reduce the debt of the company by at least Rs 1600 crore, provided the deal is completed with no obligation.

Apple’s iPhone Dominates in US Market, Survey revealed

Apple’s iPhone has been dominated the United States (US) market over the holiday season, which includes the Christmas and new year eve, and it also continued to gain a complete growth in the early months of 2013 too.

On this Wednesday a latest survey revealed that Apple’s iPhone has managed to outpace its arch rival Samsung and various other smartphone making companies that use the well-popular Android operating system of Google.

The survey has been conducted by comScore, and it covers the time period of November 2012 to January 2013. The survey showed that Apple has able to hold a huge 37.8 per cent of the overall smartphone market of United States, and this is a clear cut increase of 3.5% from the previous three month period. So the sales of the iPhone has really boosted up in the last festive season for sure.

Eventually Apple’s nearest rival Samsung has also increased its market share, but it managed to do it on a slower pace than Apple. The South Korean technology company Samsung grabbed 21.4 percent of the total US smartphone market. Samsung held the percentage of 19.5 previously.

Indian Government Wants to Raise Rs 40k Crore from PSU Stake Sale

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said that the Indian Government wants to raise at least Rs 40,000 crore from the stake sale in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the next fiscal year, which is starting from April 1, 2013.

He said that the government was quite hopeful about raising the said money from PSU stakes. This is a part of government’s disinvestment process to reduce the fiscal deficit of the country i.e. highly needed for fiscal consolidation procedure.

Finance Minister had an online chat session with the common people of India to discuss on the various issues related to the General Budget of 2013-14 in a very popular social networking site this week. In the chat session he said, "I hope to collect Rs.40, 000 crore from disinvestment next year. The first disinvestment will start in April."
